Obama = Hoover ???

Last friday on the Conservative Political Action Conference Mitt Romney, former Massachusetts governor, stood out with his statement:
“You’ve seen the heartbreaking photos and videos of the jobs fairs around the country, where thousands show up to stand in line all day just to have a chance to compete for a few job openings that probably aren’t as good as the job they held two years ago. These job fairs and unemployment lines are President Obama’s Hoovervilles!”
Hoovervilles were the villages of homeless people in the Great Depression after the Stock Market Crash in 1929. With this, Romney suggests that Obama is responsible for major economic issues of today, especially unemployment. As we learned, Hoover had been helt responsible for the Great Depression, or rather not acting firmly enough to end it.
In the article it says that this comparison is incorrect in both the economical and political ways. As opposed to Hoover's regency there was an improvement in the unemployment rate and the GDP percentage. Politically the article compares him to Rosevelt, who is said to have led the way out of the Great Depression, which is the total opposite of what Romney claimed.
In reality however, the goal is not to show historical accuracy, but to create a negative image for Obama for the upcoming election in 2012.
