Creating Worlds 1900-1940

Between 1900 and 1940, the community started developing a strong opinion about homosexuality, whether it was a newspaper deciding to support the movement or doctors declaring people sick. People were either strongly against it or strongly supporting it. The scientists researching the behaviors of homosexuals declared a specific name for the “third sex”. This was a big accomplishment in the Gay and Lesbian community. As the years go by, the people in the United States that are opposed to the Gay and Lesbian activists went to extreme to keep as many “persons with abnormal instincts” out as possible. An example would be the US immigration law banning immigrants that fit the homosexual description. Gay men started “coming out” parties that formalized the decision of being gay. In 1932 Molly Dewson was appointed the head position of the Women’s Division of the Democratic Party by President Roosevelt and she also had a relationship with another woman.
