LGBT 1960-1970s

Homosexuality in the 1960s was still highly disapproved and many showed their disapproval through protest and violent acts. In 1967 public places were banned from selling alcohol to gay or lesbian people and if they did their license would be revoked. But also in the 1960s many LGBT people started to stand up for their rights and against the government that was treating them bad. In 1965 Barbara Gittings and Frank Kameny staged the first protest against the government for gay rights. In the 1970s the opportunities for gays open up more for in 1975 the US civil Commission declared they will no longer discriminate against gays for government positions. Also in 1975 Elaine Noble was the first openly gay legislator representing for Massachusetts in the house of representative. Overall through the 1960s to the 1970s LGBT people had to over come struggles as far as discrimination in jobs and government also in public facilities.
