Carnegie Question 1

The Gospel of Wealth is a book published by Andrew Carnegie, in which he argues that the rich should use their surplus wealth to help the poor in some way. He argues that it is a Christian's obligation to help out the poor, the sick, the needy, etc... He argues "that the surplus which accrued from time to time in the hands of a man should be administered by him in his own lifetime..."(155). Carnegie is saying that the surplus money gained by the labor of men should be given back to those men who worked for it. He also argues that a wealthy man on his death bed should distribute his wealth out to the poor and the needy, their by being remembered as a generous, noble man instead of a "ignoble hoarder of useless millions"(155). A modern day example of a person that followed the Gospel is Mark Zuckerberg, who gave $100 million to the schools of Newark, New Jersey in order to improve the quality of the schools overall.
