Murder at the Border

A question our class is asked is if America is an open nation to immigrants? Recently an update on a case where a 15 year old boy was shot and killed at the Mexico border by an U.S Border Patrol guard. The family of the young boy is trying to sue the government $25 million dollars for his death. In the guard's defense he stated it was out of self defense and the young boy was throwing rocks at him, and he felt that he needed to shoot the boy. Since this event Obama has signed a bill worth $600 million, this will allow 1500 new Border Patrol agents to be hired. He also order 1200 National guard troops to help with protecting the border. The government has decided to turn down the Bushera billion-dollar virtual fence project. This project involved a surveillance system with thermal picture which will allow the guards to see the illegal immigrants crossing. But in order for this project to go forward the government would have to invest $750 million just to cover the remaining borders of Arizona alone.
Our Country says we are open to immigrants we will take anyone in. Our country also says everyone is open to the American dream; but can America truly be open to immigrants if we built a wall and post thousands of guards to shoot and arrest anyone who tries to comes over to America?
