The Dawes Act was an act created to give land to Indians from Indian reservations and their were laws to protect them. The act stated that if a tribe or band of Indians had ever lived on or used the reservation then the land will be surveyed and resurveyed whenever necessary. The Indians that lived on theat land then each recieved land under these guidlines: one eightbh of tghe kland was given to each head of the family, anyone over eighteen, any orphan under eighteen, and 1/16th of anyone under 18. Also the US would hold the land for 25years. Every person from the tribe also had to abide by the slave and territory laws where the land was located. Anyone who is part of the tribe or badn of was still under the laws of America and each Indian born under any of this act recieved the rights and was considered a US citizen.
